Blue Power

Blue Power is the flagship indica from Sin City Seeds, born from a four-way cross that pairs the Power clone (Sour Dubble x SoCal Master Kush) with OG Raskal's White Moonshine (The White x Blue Moonshine). The breeder, Don of Sin City Seeds, sourced the Power clone from an LA clone shop and pollinated it with a White Moonshine male selected directly by OG Raskal at a Santa Fe Springs seedling release around 2009. The first seeds were harvested in 2010, and even grown poorly on the initial test run, Blue Power impressed everyone who saw it. It has since become the genetic backbone behind modern hits like Apples N Bananas, Wedding Cake, Kush Mints, Animal Mints, and Ice Cream Cake.

In the grow room, Blue Power presents as a compact, sturdy indica with thick stalks and a dense branching pattern that rarely exceeds short-to-medium height. The stretch during early flower is modest — typical of its 80/20 indica dominance — and plants tend to bush outward rather than climb. This architecture makes it a natural candidate for Sea of Green setups, though topping and low-stress training are strongly recommended to open the canopy and maximize light penetration to lower bud sites. Growers who employ LST consistently report more uniform resin production across all colas. Without training, the plant will default to a single dominant central cola surrounded by tightly stacked lateral branches.

Flowering runs 55 to 65 days in most phenotypes, with the original F1 leaning toward 60 days and the stabilized IX2 backcross finishing as early as 50 days. Indoor yields range widely depending on the generation: the F1 and F2 versions typically produce 300 to 500 grams per square meter, while the IX2 has been reported at 450 to 750 grams per square meter under optimized conditions. Outdoors in a Mediterranean climate, single plants can push past 500 grams, with some seed bank listings claiming up to 1,100 grams per plant for the IX2 under ideal conditions. Harvest timing outdoors falls from late September through mid-October.

Nutrient management requires a steady hand. Blue Power is sensitive to pH drift, and multiple cultivation logs flag nutrient lockout as the primary failure mode. Maintain pH between 6.0 and 6.5 in soil or 5.5 to 6.0 in hydroponic systems. During flowering, bump phosphorus levels to encourage the dense bud formation this strain is known for, and supplement with magnesium and trace minerals — experienced growers report a 15 to 20 percent increase in resin production with organic amendments. The strain performs well in both soil and hydroponic media, with hydro growers noting increased trichome density in controlled nutrient solutions.

The dense bud structure that makes Blue Power beautiful also makes it vulnerable. Airflow management is critical — the tight colas trap moisture, creating a hospitable environment for botrytis and powdery mildew if humidity creeps above 50 percent during flower. Regular defoliation of interior fan leaves and strong air circulation are non-negotiable. The sturdy stalks and hardy branches provide good structural integrity against wind and physical stress, but growers should support heavy colas in late flower to prevent branch breakage.

For drying, a slow approach preserves the complex terpene profile. Target 60 to 65°F in complete darkness with 55 to 60 percent relative humidity for 10 to 14 days, using gentle indirect airflow only. Dry-trimming is preferred over wet-trimming to maintain the terpene buffer. The cure should run a minimum of four weeks in sealed glass jars at 58 to 62 percent humidity, burping daily for the first week. The lemon-berry-kush nose deepens significantly during an extended cure, and the smooth vanilla finish that first made Don of Sin City Seeds fall in love with this strain only emerges after patient jar time.
