Cannabis Harvest Guide

Harvesting at the right time is critical for maximizing potency, flavor, and bag appeal. Too early and you lose THC; too late and THC degrades to CBN. This guide covers everything from reading trichomes to proper drying and curing.

Reading Trichomes

Use a jeweler's loupe (60-100x) to inspect trichome heads on the buds (not sugar leaves). Clear trichomes mean it's too early. Mostly cloudy with a few amber trichomes is peak THC. More amber means more sedative effects as THC converts to CBN. Harvest when you see mostly cloudy with 10-20% amber for balanced potency.

Drying

Hang whole plants or individual branches in a dark room at 60°F and 60% humidity for 7-14 days. The slow dry is crucial — rushing it destroys terpenes. The drying is complete when small stems snap cleanly instead of bending. Never use fans blowing directly on the buds.

Curing

After drying, trim buds and place in airtight glass jars. Open jars ('burp') for 15 minutes daily for the first two weeks, then every few days for another 2-4 weeks. Proper curing develops the terpene profile, smooths the smoke, and can continue improving flower quality for up to 6 months.
