Skywalker OG

Skywalker OG grows with a textbook indica architecture—wide internodal spacing at the base that tightens toward the canopy, stout lateral branching that spreads aggressively, and a manageable indoor height of 80–120 cm without training. Outdoors, plants can push to 180 cm (roughly six feet) with full sun and room to stretch. The main cola becomes enormous, both the visual payoff and the primary cultivation challenge, as its density invites moisture retention deep inside the bud structure.

Expect a 30–50% stretch during the first two weeks after flipping to 12/12. That's significant for an indica-dominant plant, a direct inheritance from its OG Kush parentage. Growers running tight vertical clearance should top early and implement SCROG with 5 cm mesh set 30–40 cm above the pot rim, weaving new growth through the screen every two to three days until 70–80% coverage is achieved before the flip. LST and topping both work well here—the lateral branching responds eagerly, creating a carpet of uniform colas rather than one dominant central spear.

Flower time runs 8–9 weeks for most phenotypes, with some pushing to 10 weeks in cooler environments. Trichome inspection is the only reliable harvest indicator: aim for 10–20% amber heads on the calyxes (not sugar leaves, which mature faster) for that signature heavy, sedating finish. Indoor yields of 500–600 g/m² are achievable under optimized conditions with proper training and 800–1000 µmol/m²/s PPFD at canopy. Outdoors, 500–700 grams per plant is realistic in a warm, dry climate with an early October harvest window.

The cultivar performs well in both soil and coco, though experienced growers running coco report meaningfully better yields from tighter feed control. Amended living soil is the more forgiving option for less experienced cultivators. Hydroponic setups work but demand vigilant pH management.

Environment is where Skywalker OG separates disciplined growers from the rest. Maintain 21–26°C during lights-on, dropping 2–4°C at lights-off to encourage anthocyanin expression and terpene density. Humidity discipline is critical: 50–55% RH in early flower, stepping down to 45% by week 4 and pushing toward 40% in the final two weeks. VPD targets of 1.0–1.5 kPa work well, trending higher from week 4 onward. Under sealed-room CO₂ enrichment (1000–1200 ppm), PPFD can be pushed to 1000–1200 µmol/m²/s. High-quality LED or HPS both deliver strong results.

Botrytis (grey mold) is the primary threat and the reason this strain demands humidity attention. Those chunky, rock-hard colas trap moisture at their core, creating a microclimate where botrytis can establish and destroy a harvest in 48 hours. Oscillating fans at canopy level are essential—air should cause gentle leaf movement without violent shaking. Defoliate proactively at weeks 3 and 6 of flower: any bud site buried in foliage is a botrytis incubation zone. Inspect buds daily from week 5 onward, parting colas to check interiors. Potassium bicarbonate or copper-based preventive sprays can be applied through week 3 of flower but should stop once buds begin densing. The plant otherwise shows good general disease resistance and tolerates cooler temperatures reasonably well. Outdoor growers should watch for aphids, spider mites, and caterpillars with regular scouting.

The heavy trichome production makes Skywalker OG an excellent hash plant. Its resin output and OG-lineage trichome morphology are well-suited for ice water extraction. Fresh-frozen material should yield in the 3–8% range (whole-plant fresh weight), with the best phenotypes pushing toward the upper end. Dried and cured flower can return 15–20% in bubble hash. The 73–120 micron collection bags typically capture the highest-quality full-melt heads.

Dry whole branches in darkness at 15–18°C with 55–60% RH for 10–14 days until stems snap cleanly. Terpenes volatilize quickly above 25°C, so a slow, cool dry is essential to preserve the complex fuel-pine-earth profile. Cure in glass jars at 60–62% RH, burping twice daily for the first week, once daily through week four. The cure is functional at four weeks, but six to eight weeks is where Skywalker OG's flavor fully develops—the harsh edges round off and the earthy diesel complexity deepens.
