Cannabis Drying & Curing Guide

The difference between good weed and great weed Drying and curing are where premium genetics become premium flower. You can grow the best Candiez or Lemon Cherry Gelato in the world, but rushing the dry and cure will ruin it. This is the step that separates top-shelf from mid-grade.

Drying (7-14 Days)

Temperature: 60-65°F (too hot = terpenes evaporate) Humidity: 55-62% RH (use a hygrometer — don't guess) Airflow: Gentle air circulation (oscillating fan on low, NOT pointed at buds) Light: Total darkness — light degrades THC and terpenes Duration: 7-14 days until small stems snap (not bend)

Trimming: Wet vs Dry

Trim leaves immediately after cutting. Faster dry, cleaner look. Preferred for large operations. Leave leaves on during drying. Slower, more controlled dry. Better terpene preservation. Preferred for craft quality.

Curing (2-8 Weeks)

Jar it: Place trimmed buds in mason jars, filled 75% (leave air space) Burp daily: Open jars for 15-30 minutes daily for the first 2 weeks Monitor humidity: Target 58-62% RH inside jars (use Boveda 62% packs as backup) Reduce burping: After 2 weeks, burp every 2-3 days Minimum cure: 2 weeks, but 4-8 weeks produces noticeably better flavor and smoothness Long-term storage: After curing, store in cool, dark place. Properly cured cannabis can store 6-12 months

Why Curing Matters

Curing breaks down chlorophyll and other harsh compounds while allowing terpenes to fully develop. Uncured cannabis is harsh, grassy, and doesn't express its full flavor potential. A proper cure can transform a 7/10 smoke into a 10/10.
